Why You Should Try This Recipe
I’m generous on the time spent in making it. It will likely be ready even sooner, unless you decide to roast the garlic used in the crema. I’ll explain what I mean in the ingredient notes below.
I really believe in saving the avocados, or any food from hitting the waste if you can get a source of nutrition from it. This crema is great to make with avocados in their last days, too. Don’t let anything delicious go to waste.
It’s also the perfect size for home. A one cup batch (half of a large avo/ 16 tablespoons) of avocado crema that’s realistically used up within the 7-days it will last.
Ingredients in Avocado Crema
Grocery Quick List: ripe avocado, greek yogurt, garlic clove, onion powder, salt, lime wedge.

- Large avocado halve (about 4-5 ounces / half cup).
- Sour Cream or Greek Yogurt cup (on average 5 ounces).
- 1 garlic clove
- Lime
- Salt
Ingredient Notes / Variations
- Avocado – ripe avocado is preferred choice always.
- Use your frozen avocado too. It’s definitely an option for an awesome crema like this one.
- It’s blended enough for a just right texture and consistency. It is not a thin sauce, we don’t like watery versions of cream sauce. We do OG fashioned ways because that’s how it’s meant to be homestyle—for the REAL creamy deal!

- Sour Cream – will depend on the kind you in your kitchen for meals the most but I’ll give my true recommendation as always.
- Traditionally, use sour cream of choice or crema (with or sans the salt) are all perfect and a matter of preference.
- Greek yogurt individual cup is really good to use (because healthy gut care is awesome), especially if consuming on a regular basis or a bit sensitive to dairy. It’s light, healthy and a very satisfying in this recipe.
- Garlic – fresh garlic clove over jarred, ALWAYS. But if any aromatic ingredient such as this is out of stock, ground garlic (powder) version will work as a backup. Just use 1/4 tsp and follow the instructions.
- Garlic on everything peeps feel free to add an extra raw clove for a stronger garlic flavor.
- For subtle garlic flavor Roasted or Lightly fried clove.
- Fried to black garlic will be bitter and ruin your crema, so don’t do it.
- Lime – a hint of lime meaning half a tsp is enough to cover the taste and texture of this recipe size. If you decide to use more lime, you may need a sprinkle of additional salt to balance.
- If you’d like some acidity and don’t have lime, a half teaspoon of vinegar is an optional substitution.
- Optional spices are added based on your flavor profile preferences and curiosity. Especially if making this for a specific meal.
