Strawberry Lime Agua Fresca is a water based fruit drink. It’s a go-to drink over here because we have a lime tree and strawberries are a regular purchase because protein smoothies. The ingredients are just what you’d imagine; strawberry, lime, sugar, water, and it takes about 10 minutes to make.
I love a chilled glass with a few ice cubes of Strawberry Lime to post up in the shade with. Let’s make Agua Fresca Today!
What Makes This Recipe So Good
When the strawberries used are sweet, this drink, especially in the warmer seasons, is extra satisfying for fans of this Vitamin C packed fruit. It’s a perfect pitcher to have in the fridge for outdoor hang time to chill and enjoy.
If you don’t have strawberries at the moment, try my Cantaloupe Agua De Melon recipe, it’s also a hit in the summer because in season.
You’ll see there is sugar listed in this recipe, but please do use the sweetener of choice to meet your dietary lifestyle requirements. It’s not going to stop this drink from being perfect for your spring and summer afternoons.
I’ll drop sweetener types in the ingredients and variations section for easy finding, incase you’d like to explore ideas.
Ingredients
Grocery Quick List: strawberries, limes, sugar to sweeten. Ice cubes optional but recommended.
- 1/2 pound strawberries, about 8-9 pieces.
- 3 fresh limes, juiced
- 1/2 cup cane sugar
- 3 1/2 cups water
Ingredient Notes / Variations
- Strawberries – Pick up strawberries from your local strawberry farm, farmers’ market, or grocery vendor to make this drink.
- Fresh strawberries are always the first choice when making homemade agua fresca.
- Frozen strawberries can also be used when not in season, but I do recommend you strain the strawberry drink multiple times if making from frozen. As previously mentioned, fresh strawberry is always preferred for this max flavored drink!
- Limes – the fresh tangy taste of fresh lime merry’s very well into the flavor of this agua fresca.
- Roll palm over the lime on a countertop before cutting into.
- Use citrus juicer if limes are not soft enough to press with hand.
- Sugar – I use cane sugar or white sugar because it’s easiest to find, even when out of town. Even though the strawberries are sweet, adding sugar is still an ingredient in this agua fresca.
- If you can go without it, or even less sugar, definitely go for it.
- Start with 1/4 cup sugar and gradually increase, after it’s been blended to determine if it’s sweet enough for you.
- Pure cane sugar, palm sugar, monkfruit, and agave nectar are a few sweetener types I’ve used for aguas frescas.
Optional add-ins – Chia Seeds! We’re no stranger to adding chia to this favorite, but for the drink recipe we’re keeping it simple. Be sure to let it soak for at least 30 minutes and always stir before serving.
Equipment Note – small equipment used to make this includes a blender, and if you don’t have one, a smoothie blender will also do the trick in keeping this recipe easy.
